Providence 365-Week 30

Yet you, LORD, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.

Isaiah 64:8 (NIV)

If you have ever worked with clay – you know that it can be a slow process to create that perfect pot. It takes patience and care and cannot be rushed.

I am clay and our good Lord is the potter. Isn’t this a comforting thought? I am the work of His hand. I am always growing, always changing - He is not done with me. He has patience with me. He guides me. His hands are constantly on me. He molds me not only on the outside but on the inside too. I’m not finished. He never gives up on me – He sits at that potter’s wheel as He patiently molds me. When I am weak, he builds me up to make me stronger. If I start leaning, He holds me up. I am sometimes hard on myself when I make a mistake and cannot get past the scar that is left. What I need to remember is that I am forgiven - His tender touch smooths out that blemish and allows me to grow. He never walks away from that wheel. I am His and He is not done with me. And for that I am thankful.

Do I make mistakes? Absolutely. Does He? Never! He has a plan for me and while I do not know that plan – I have confidence that He knows exactly what this pot will be when I am complete. I make mistakes, and He forgives me and still loves me. I head down a wrong path – and He redirects my steps. He is still molding me – He is not finished with me. I can imagine him smiling as I become the person He knows I will be.

This week, I encourage you to reflect on how He has been molding you….

Here is a bit of word art to help you with your layout this week.

Please make sure to post your layout in our Providence 365 gallery at Faith Sisters – and head on over the the Providence 365 thread in the Faith Sister Forum (here) and share the link. I can’t wait to see what you create. (And can you believe we are at week 30 – already!) Have a blessed week!

July 1,2,3 Scrap!

It is the Third Thursday of the month, and it is time for another round of 1,2,3 Scrap! Please join me on this fun and easy challenge. I will provide you with 3 simple "requirements" for your layout - and you take it from there.

This month we go back to the basics of writing. In grade school, we learned to incorporate the 5 W's when writing. Who? What? Where? When? and Why? (if I recall, we also threw in how occasionally) By answering these 5 simple questions, we can share with our reader what they need to understand our story.

We are also going to share a little bit about ourselves. Everyone has one thing they love to spoil themselves with - not a necessity but something we do for ourselves ' just because'. So indulge me - what is your favorite indulgence?

The three requirements for this month's 1,2,3 Scrap! Challenge

1) create a layout of your favorite indulgence using a single picture

2) journal using the 5 W's

3) use at least 2 different fonts on your page

To help get you started - I have a journaling page for you - pre-filled with the 5 W's..... you can download it >>>>> HERE

Here is my indulgence. Yes, I admit it - I love Starbucks. I know a lot of people that NEED their morning coffee - that jolt of caffeine to get their day started. But....that's not me. I always order my drinks decaf. I know, I know...some of you are shaking your head thinking 'why even bother'. The warmth of the drink is comforting, the flavor of the coffee is 'just right', the sweetness of the drink (even if it is sugar free and non fat) brings a smile to my face every time.

When you are done with your layout, please post it in our 1,2,3 Scrap! gallery - and let us know in our 1,2,3 Scrap! forum - both at Faith Sisters.

Thanks for playing along - and be sure to come back next month for a new challenge on the third Thursday of the month.

Are you ready? 1,2,3 Scrap!

Providence 365 -Week 28

What’s in your stick bag?

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10

Friday and Saturday, I sat in a concert hall and listened to incredible performances, presented by awesome and talented young musicians. Each musician had a part to play, a gift to share. I sat in awe as I watched a talented percussionist play the xylophone & marimba (and other instruments) with such passion and joy.

We each have gifts and are to use those gifts to serve. Notice the “s” on gifts. Yes, we have more than one – and not everyone was blessed with the same set of gifts. Can you imagine if the musicians in the orchestras and ensembles I listened to all played the same instrument and played the exact same score, same notes, same octaves. While I have no doubt the music would have been lovely, it would have quickly become old. The musical value would diminish over time.
The percussionist I mentioned is my daughter. I was literally moved to tears when it hit me how far she has come with her gift. When she opens her stick bag – it is filled with many mallets, sticks and other items that allow her to play a variety of instruments. I look at them and to the untrained eye (mine) they all look the same. Yet she knows that each one has a different and specific purpose and can be used to make beautiful music for others to enjoy.

She has many gifts. In addition to being a talented musician, she has already shown she can be a leader, a teacher, a compassionate caregiver and so much more. What a blessing to watch her grow and mature – to watch her unwrap new gifts ~ adding those to her own personal “stickbag” each day. She is learning when and how to use those gifts and is already starting to use them to serve others.

We each have a part to play in life’s orchestra. Each part is different yet played together, we make beautiful music. What gifts are in your stick bag? Do you know how to use them and what to use them for? What gifts are waiting for you to unwrap? And will you use them to serve others?

Here is my gift for you today - an overlay for your 12x12 layout. Use your “digi” gifts to create a layout showcasing your own gifts – or those of someone you love. (try reducing the opacity or even change the color to make this overlay perfect for your unique layout.)

You may download it here >>>>> here

We started the Providence 365 journey at the start of this calendar year. Each week Barbara (of Precepts and Promises) provide you with a prompt and a “gift” for you to create layouts to help you see and document God’s Providence in your own life. It is never too late to start. Each week thus far can be found in the Providence 365 forum at Faith Sisters >>>>> here.

Wishing you a blessed week.

by the Shore designs has just released a new 12x12 Layered Template - MOSAIC ONE (offered in psd format and compatible with Photoshop and Photoshop Elements).

Simply add your favorite pictures and coordinating papers on the grid and your mosaic layout is ready to go. Grid/tiles are color coded to help simply the process. "Grout" in the layout can be white or black (or can be recolored to reflect your own unique style) The mosaic grid allows for several photos (and I just love using multiple photos in my layouts)

Perhaps you want to showcase a special event, maybe gardening is a passion and you want to share pictures of your beautiful flowers - whatever the case, this template is perfect for a variety of layouts and themes! (click here or on the preview to go straight to this kit in my store)

This layout was created using nine photos from our December 2010 mini-vacation in Cocoa Beach Florida. I love using photos to tell as much of the story as I can. (I used papers from my Nativity collection on this layout)

My Digi-versary! Celebrate!

Last summer I began an amazing journey in digital design. I was blessed to be able to secure a seat in jessicasprague.com's Art of Digital Design class. This class provided me with the opportunity to learn and grow my own digital scrapbooking skills as well as develop an extensive portfolio of designer techniques essential for digital design. At the end of the class (after successfully passing an exam and critique of my first digital kit), I was proud to announce that I was a jessicasprague.com certified digital designer. And "by the Shore designs" was born.

I was doubly blessed to be invited in September of 2010 to be a digital product designer at www.faithsisters.com.

Throughout the past year, I have met some fabulous women (and men) in the digital design field. I continue to take classes to learn as much as I can about adobe photoshop, adobe illustrator, digital scrapbooking and design concepts ~ I have always enjoyed learning and look forward to continuing this journey. My favorite sites for digital classes are www.jessicasprague.com and www.reneepearson.com.

To celebrate my "digi-versary", by the Shore designs store at FaithSisters is having a 50% off sale for the entire month of July. I am also releasing two new digital collections - All Star Birthday - in primary colors and pastel colors. These collections are perfect for showcasing your birthday celebrations - as well as other special events.

A good friend of mine that began the design journey when I did is also having a celebration sale (through July 15th) Head on over and visit Kelly at SimplyKellyDesigns and take a moment to congratulate her on her success as a digital designer! (truly one of my favorites)

If you are in the US, I pray that you are enjoying your holiday weekend and are giving thanks for the freedom it represents. Wherever you are visiting from - WELCOME - have a wonderful weekend ~ enjoy the blessings that surround you and come back soon and visit - by the Shore.
